DARRAB QURESHI
" Breathing Tree "

Thread, Tulle, Cotton

ARTIST STATEMENT

This piece I have embroidered is called, “ Breathing Tree.” Breathing tree has a dark blue georgette background to represent the sky. I used the trachea and bronchi to create an intricate tree out of brown embroidery floss. Then by using multiple French knots I created miniature leaves of multiple shades of green. On one side the leaves outline the lungs to represent a bare tree and on the other side the leaves fill the lungs to represent a full tree. I chose lungs and not another organ because I know the importance of trees and the oxygen that they give us to breath. The true message I want to portray with this piece is the importance of the nature that surrounds us because without it we wouldn’t even be able to breathe.

ARTIST BIO

My name is Darrab Qureshi, I was born in Toronto, Ontario in 2003. My first experiences as an artist was when I got my first paints in 2012 and immediately fell in love with painting. As the years went by I noticed that many of my art pieces were influenced by my family and the nature that surrounded me. That led me in 2018 to begin to take courses for Digital Arts and Photography in my high school. Now I predominately work in the Digital Media field and plan to pursue that in Post-secondary.
